2019 SWE Annual Conference
Attend WE19 — the world’s largest conference and career fair for women in engineering and technology — to connect with thousands who share your engineering outlook. WE19 is one of the largest and most prestigious conferences for women in engineering and technology. This year’s theme is to live, learn and lead. Registration has now passed.
Our Experience at WE19!
This year, SWE got the opportunity to send over 30 people from Cal State LA to WE19 in Anaheim, California. Some people walked out of this conference with job offers, internship offers, and many other opportunities.
The SWE team didn't just stop at funding us. They genuinely wanted us to do well. They created multiple workshops to prepare us for the event. The workshops went from how to dress, to interview advice. Following that, they also sent us direct links to applications for some of the top companies in attendance. Companies such as Northrop, Boeing and Raytheon among many others. They really came together to put in so much effort in making sure we were successful. The application links quickly paid off. Several of us received requests for interviews during the conference.
Elisa Matias our youngest member among our group, had never attended a conference. What she learned was “One, it's ok to be nervous. Two, don't try to remember your elevator pitch word for word remember it's a conversation with people that have the same interests you have. Three, go with people you’re comfortable with, y'all will get through it together as you’re helping each other out”
Mayra Izquierdo in particular got a call that same night from Edison. The interviewers liked her so much they gave her an offer before the end of the day. Mayra said “When I saw that phone call from Edison, I was so happy, excited and so grateful for everything that helped me get to that point. I couldn't stop smiling it was euphoric” In all the event was a success and so much of that was the SWE team building us up for it.
CalstateLA SWE chapter, we are very grateful as your work had a direct impact on our future.
Thank you!

"At WE19, I was able to network at the Northrop Grumman Hospitality Suite I met up with other SWE - LA people who also worked at the Northrop Grumman Suite. I also attended the Northrop Grumman Luncheon were I reunited with the VP of Northrop Grumman Foundation. I told her I had an offer and she gave me a shoutout during her speech at the luncheon!"
